Elements of Thought: Implications and Inferences: How They Differ

  • Implications and inferences are the same thing. The difference is how one participates in the activity.
  • Implying is analogous to speaking. Speakers speak. When speakers are giving arguments, they imply conclusions..
  • Inferring is analogous to hearing. Listeners hear. When one is listening to an argument, they infer conclusions.
