Faulty Comparison

Explanation:

  • Faulty comparison: Any number of problems which arise from claiming that two or more things are comparable.

    Closely related: Faulty Analogy

Examples:

  • (i) "More people died in airplane crashes in 1990 than in 1910, so flying is more dangerous now." Of course, almost no one flew in 1910, so it's a faulty comparison.
  • (ii) "Exide batteries last twice as long." Twice as long as what?
